Restructuring: South East to hold mega rally October

South East leaders have resolved to hold a mega stakeholders conference, in October, to take a common position on restructuring even as they have agreed to ratify the proscription of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by governors of the region. The leaders, at a meeting in Enugu, last Saturday, said the region must take a precise stand on the issue of restructuring of the country. The meeting was attended by an extended South East caucus, comprising the zone’s governors and elders. The planned mega conference is yet to have a date but the caucus has tentatively agreed that it should hold in October. Sources at the meeting told Daily Sun that the leaders resolved to toe the path of South West leaders who recently met in Ibadan, where the zone adopted a common position that Nigeria must be restructured. Court jails cattle breeder 10 months for extortion

A Minna Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a cattle breeder, Salisu Goro, to 10 months imprisonment for extortion. Magistrate Fati Auna, however, gave the convict an option of N15, 000 fine. Goro was docked on a count charge of extortion, punishable under Section 293 of the Penal Code. The convict admitted committing the offence and begged the court for leniency. The Prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Danladi, had earlier told the court that one Abubakar Tanko reported the case at the police station on Sept. 19. The complainant alleged that on the same day at about 10:00p.m., he was on his motorcycle to Wushishi to buy drugs when the convict threatened and extorted money from him. He said the police arrested the defendant and he admitted committing the crime.

The street Westbury New Road where Rihanna grew up will be renamed Rihanna Drive.
